1 Verse:
The sun beat down on Canaan's dust
Two nations struggled in one bust
The first was red and hairy-skinned
A hunter with the wind,my friend
His name was Esau, strong and loud
A man who stood out from the crowd
The second followed,holding on
A quiet boy,the dusk till dawn
His name was Jacob tent-bound soul
Who longed to have a firm control.

Chorus:
Oh, the birthright and the blessing, a father's word and name
A promise made to Abraham fanned into a flame
But for a single, hungry moment, and a pot of stew so red
The future of a people on a single choice was shed.

2 Verse:
Now Esau came in from the plain
His strength was spent, his body pain
The smell of lentils filled the air
From Jacob's pot, a tempting snare
"My brother, let me eat that red,
I feel as if I'm nearly dead!"
And Jacob with a cunning smile,
Said,"Sell your birthright, wait a while.
Your future, for this meal I've made."
And in the shade, the price was paid.

Chorus:
Oh, the birthright and the blessing, a father's word and name
A promise made to Abraham fanned into a flame
But for a single, hungry moment, and a pot of stew so red
The future of a people on a single choice was shed.

Bridge:
Then came the day of Isaac's bed
His eyes were dim his spirit fled
With Rebecca's guiding hand
And goat skin on his arm he planned
To steal the blessing meant for one
The firstborn,and the elder son
A kiss,a smell, a trembling voice
"Oh, Esau's here!" he made the choice
And with the words, the deed was done.

3 Verse:
The scream of Esau, raw and wild
Upon his father, he recoiled
"You blessed my brother in my place!
Is there no blessing left for grace?"
He swore to kill the one who stole
The promise that had made him whole
And Jacob fled into the night
To wrestle with an angel's might
To earn the name he'd bought and won
Beneath a cold and foreign sun.

Outro:
Oh,the red, red stew...
For a hunger that was true.
Oh,the field so wide...
For a brother who must hide.
The birthright...was sold.
A story...so old.
A choice...so bol
