About All Glory

Worship Central worship leader Nikki Fletcher has released her latest solo album, 'All Glory'. This mini album is made up of six tracks and features co-writes with Tim Hughes, Martin Smith and Luke Hellebronth. Australian born Nikki relocated to London from Sydney in 2008 and currently serves as part of the staff team for Worship Central and Holy Trinity Brompton, London. Nikki's songs will be well known to many as some of her songs were on the last Worship Central album. You know that an album is going to be good when it kicks off with an atmospheric synth and the lines "Let mercy flow, in the depths of my soul, like a river of life, restore and reconcile". That's how opening track River Flow starts proceedings on this album. The song soon kicks into a thumping drum beat and nice bass part that adds a sense of excitement of God's spirit flowing. I challenge you to not want to join in with the simple yet bluesy verses of "Flow river flow... Spirit moving up". This song is very infectious and a little different to many of the songs being released at the moment. Nikki creates a real sense of excitement of what God is doing during this song. Nikki has a wonderful voice, one that stands out from others, with a beautiful rich tone. She can sing those low notes with elegance and can also belt out those big high notes. Not many artists can do that with the quality which can be heard during the whole of this mini album. That voice comes to the forefront especially during the track 'Worlds Collide'. The song itself is very different to the album opener but with so much going on musically during this mid tempo worship song Nikki keeps the listener tuned in to the beautiful words of praise with her stunning vocal range. "There is power in the cross, your sacrifice." As the album progresses we head into some really heartfelt songs.
'Draw Me Close' has a wonderful piano underlay to it that sounds amazing. The song is all about being near to God, with Nikki singing the words "Draw me close, I am lost without you, help me know I am yours alone". The songs starts out with some beautifully chosen chords and then builds slowly into a simple yet powerful heart-cry to God. This is one of my favorite songs on the album and has to be counted as a truly stunning tune that will be played again and again. The haunting piano sounds continue with 'You Are What I Need'. The song starts with a simple grand piano, again playing some quiet chords, but with the sound of the piano being so full and rich. It must be pointed out that the quality of the piano playing on the whole album is truly sublime. Once the orchestral instruments blend in, the whole song is taken to another level. Nikki's voice lifts the song up, turning a simple piano sound into one that would not be out of place at the grandest of theatres or opera houses around the world. For me the song has a grandness to it, a classical feel. For all the quality in the song, what makes it even better is that the song shows the greatness of God, saying "Jesus is what I need". The last two tracks on the album Wait For You and All Glory might be familiar to some, as they appeared on the Worship Central Album 'Spirit Break Out'. They both now have a richer quality than they did on that live album. Hearing these songs in a studio setting with Nikki given time to add the creative sparkle to them, for me is what makes the songs sound more complete. I truly fell in love with the songs on this album. Many worship albums can sound very similar these days, with big guitars and pounding drums. Of course when this is done well, it can sound amazing, and there are a few songs on this mini album that have that big rocking chorus ('All Glory'). But what Nikki has done with this album is pour out her heart to God, lyrically, and let the melody and music flow into wonderful heart wrenching worship. Be it in the bluesy opener of River Flow, the classy You Are What I Need or the rocking All Glory, this mini album will make you want to dance and worship God. It makes you want to get on your knees and cry to God, or stand up hands in the air shouting out in praise to Him. That's what a true worship album should make you do. Review by Jono Davies
